The Republican River Water Conservation District utilizes federal programs, such as the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), to leverage local dollars to provide financial incentives to producers for voluntarily retiring irrigation wells and surface water rights to minimize consumptive use impact to stream flow for compact benefit. Retiring these wells also helps to conserve water in the Ogallala Aquifer for future generations.
