RRWCD Basin history!

The Colorado State Legislature created the District in 2004 to assure local involvement in the State’s efforts to comply with the Republican River Compact between Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska. Members of the Board of Directors are residents of the basin appointed by the Commissioners of local counties, Boards of ground water management districts, and the Colorado Ground Water Commission.

Deb Daniel was named General Manager of the Republican River Water Conservation District in April, 2011. Deb has been involved in agriculture throughout her career. She served as the general manager of the Irrigation Research Foundation in Yuma, CO, 1998-2001. In 2006, she was selected as the general manager of the Plains and East Cheyenne Ground Water Management Districts.

Water and agriculture have been the focus of her career.  Pursuing the preservation of the ag-based economy in northeastern Colorado is her passion.

Deb and her husband, Steve, live in Burlington, CO where he owns an electrical contracting business. Steve and Deb like to travel and are active in their church.  Deb enjoys gardening, spending time with family/friends and meeting new ones. They have 4 children and 4 beautiful grandchildren.

Suzanna Baker started with the district in 2017 as the Administrative Assistant. She was born and raised in the RRWCD Basin. Starting in Bethune, CO and later moving to a ranch north of Wray, CO. This is where her love of agriculture began. Suzanna attended Colorado State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in Soil and Crop Sciences, concentrating in Biotechnology, Genetics and Breeding. Her experience in Agriculture varies from studying new corn hybrids to working on the family farm and now doing what she can to ensure an economic future for the entire RRWCD basin.

Suzanna and her husband Tyler, live in Wray, CO. Tyler is the Fish Hatchery Manager in Wray.

A Letter from the Board

Welcome to the Republican River Water Conservation District web page. We intend for this website to be your “Go to” place for all things pertaining to our local water issues.

First, a little information as to who we are:

The RRWCD was formed by the Colorado State Legislature in 2004. The district’s purpose is to aid the State of Colorado, in its obligation to meet the requirements ofthe Republican River Compact with the neighboring states of KS and NE.

The Board is comprised of 17 members, representing, 8 counties, 8 Ground water Management Districts and one position appointed from the Colorado Groundwater Commission. We have Quarterly meetings on the Third Tuesday of February, May, August, and November.

We encourage you to spend some time on the webpage to learn more about who we are and what we are up to. We also invite your input as this Board navigates the perilous world of our future water security in the Republican River Basin.

Sincerely,

Rod Lenz
